Broken and chipped tooth questions

What should I do if I have broken or chipped a tooth?

Rinse your mouth gently with warm water, keep any fragments, and use a cold compress on the cheek if it is swollen. If a sharp edge is cutting your tongue or cheek, cover it with sugar-free chewing gum or dental wax. Then call us, because the exposed tooth can become painful or infected.

What should I do if a tooth has been knocked out?

Time matters. Hold an adult tooth by the crown (not the root), rinse it briefly if dirty without scrubbing, and gently put it back in its socket if you can. If not, keep it in milk and see a dentist within an hour. Do not put a baby tooth back in. Call us on 07857 998997 straight away.

Can a broken tooth be repaired on the same day?

Often, yes. Depending on how much of the tooth is damaged, it may be rebuilt with bonding, protected with a temporary restoration, or planned for a crown. The dentist explains the options after examining the tooth.

Do I need to be registered to be seen for a broken tooth?

No. You do not need to be registered with us or have a referral. We are a private clinic, so you can book an emergency appointment straight away instead of waiting for an NHS slot.

How much does it cost to be seen for a broken tooth?

Our emergency consultation is a flat £20 and includes a full examination and any X-rays needed to find the cause. If treatment is needed, the dentist explains the options and the cost before anything starts.

Dental emergency or A&E?

Most dental emergencies need a dentist, not a hospital. Call us on 07857 998997 if you have any of the problems on the left. Go to A&E or call 999 for the problems on the right.
