What Are Dental Implants and Veneers?
Understanding the difference between dental implants and veneers is crucial when facing an emergency situation. Both are essential restorative dental solutions but serve different purposes in maintaining your oral health and smile aesthetics.

Understanding Dental Emergencies: Lost Implants & Veneers
When a dental implant or veneer becomes loose or falls out, immediate professional attention is crucial to prevent complications and protect your oral health. Here's what you need to know about both treatments:
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a titanium post surgically placed into the jawbone to replace missing tooth roots. It serves as an anchor for replacement teeth and can last a lifetime with proper care. Signs of implant emergency include:
- •Loosening of the implant or crown
- •Pain or discomfort around the implant site
- •Visible damage to the implant crown
Dental Veneers
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of teeth, improving appearance. Emergency situations with veneers typically include:
- •Complete detachment of the veneer
- •Chips or cracks in the veneer
- •Partial loosening causing sensitivity
Immediate Actions for Lost Implants
- •Preserve the implant crown in clean water
- •Avoid touching the implant site
- •Seek immediate emergency dental care
Emergency Veneer Care
- •Store the veneer safely if recovered
- •Avoid exposing the underlying tooth
- •Contact our emergency dental service

Lost veneer and implant questions
What should I do if a veneer falls off?
Keep the veneer somewhere safe, avoid biting on that tooth, and do not glue it back yourself. Call us and bring it along so the dentist can check whether it can be bonded back on.
My implant crown feels loose. Is that urgent?
A loose implant crown or an implant that moves should be checked promptly, as the cause may be a loose screw, a worn part or infection around the implant. Do not force it back or chew on it. Call us to be seen.
Can you help if my implants or veneers were done at another clinic?
Yes. We assess the problem, relieve any pain and explain what can be done. We can see you without registration even if your work was done elsewhere.
Do I need to be registered to book an emergency appointment?
No. You do not need to be registered with us or have a referral. We are a private clinic, so you can book an emergency appointment straight away instead of waiting for an NHS slot.
How much does it cost to be seen?
Our emergency consultation is a flat £20 and includes a full examination and any X-rays needed to find the cause. If treatment is needed, the dentist explains the options and the cost before anything starts.

Most dental emergencies need a dentist, not a hospital. Call us on 07857 998997 if you have any of the problems on the left. Go to A&E or call 999 for the problems on the right.
